FDA Scholarship and Stipends
The Florida Dietetic Association Foundation offers scholarships and stipends to Florida Dietetic Association members. Scholarships and stipends are awarded to qualified applicants to support the future of our profession.
Scholarships are available annually for undergraduate students, graduate students and dietetic interns. Stipends are available bi-annually for professionals to enhance their leadership skills. Stipends are awarded each year for students that assist at the FDA annual symposium. In addition, stipends are offered annually to promote and support American Dietetic Association membership.
The FDA Foundation is supported by individual and district donations as well as through various statewide fundraising initiatives. Scholarship committee member include:

Please review the following scholarships:
Florida Dietetic Association Scholarships-
The FDAF awards three, $1,500. scholarships each year. The Sister Marie Pellicer Scholarship is for undergraduates, the FDA President’s Scholarship is for graduate students and the Dietetic Internship Scholarship is for interns.
May 1 is the application deadline. Applications and references will be accepted between April 1 and May 1.
Special note: This is the last year that these three scholarships will be offered in May.
These scholarships are being transitioned to a November 1 deadline. Due to this transition, FDA has approved offering these scholarships twice in 2008.
The three FDAF scholarships will be available again in the fall of 2008. November 1 is the application deadline. Applications and references will be accepted between October 1 and November 1.

Levina Phillips Stipends-
The Levina Phillips Leadership and Emerging Leader Stipends are offered for members to attend programs to enhance their leadership skills. These $500. stipends are awarded twice a year. April 1 is the application deadline for spring submissions. Applications and references will be accepted between March 1 and April 1. September 15 is the fall submission deadline. Applications and references will be accepted between August 15 and September 15.
Completed applications should be e-mailed to the FDA scholarship chair.

FDA Dietetic Student Stipends
Calling all interested Florida dietetic students! Would you like to attend the annual educational and networking symposium for the Florida Dietetic Association? Just being a Florida dietetic student makes you eligible for this $200. stipend. You must be willing to volunteer 5 hours of your time to FDA while attending the meeting. FDA headquarters will contact you to make arrangements for your volunteer hours, if you are selected.
5 stipends are awarded annually. The application deadline is May 10. Applications and references are accepted between April 10 and the May 10 deadline.

American Dietetic Association Membership Stipend
This stipend promotes the benefit of ADA membership and supports ADA membership retention.
Fifteen, $100 stipends are available to newly eligible RD/DTRs and RD/DTRs up to the first 5 years of ADA membership. A $100. check will be sent to you to apply towards the ADA membership dues. The stipend can be awarded up to 2 times to new ADA members during their first 5 years of membership.
The application deadline is April 10. Applications and references will be accepted between March 10 and the April 10 deadline.

AADE Education and Research Foundation Scholarships
Each year, the AADE Education and Research Foundation
is proud to provide scholarships to cover registration
fees for AADE members to attend the AADE Annual
Meeting and other continuing education opportunities
offered by the Association. Many scholarship winners
would be unable to participate in these events without
this program.
AADE Members who are interested in receiving a
scholarship must submit an application. The AADE
Awards Committee is charged with reviewing the applications
and determining the scholarship winners. Strong
consideration is given to AADE members who are:

Working
full time as a diabetes educator
-
Working
with communities at high risk for diabetes
-
Are
a member of a chapter and/or SPG
-
Participate
in volunteer diabetes activities
-
Have
limited financial support for continuing education
In addition to the general scholarships, applicants
may be eligible for one of the following specialty
awards:
Anthem Blue Cross /Blue Shield Scholarship
Applicants for this scholarship must use
internet resources or web-based diabetes management
tools in their practice, and must reside in
one of these states: California, Colorado, Connecticut,
Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, Nevada,
New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia or Wisconsin.
Julie Betschart Scholarship
Established in 1998, the Julie Betschart Scholarship
is awarded annually in memory of a Julie Betschart,
daughter of Jean E. Betschart Roemer, CPNP,
MSN, MN, CDE, a Past President of AADE. Julie,
an ardent supporter of the association, was
pursuing a PhD in exercise physiology with emphasis
on diabetes prior to her untimely death. The
scholarship was established to reflect her professional
focus as well as that of her mother. Consequently,
applicants must have experience/interest in
exercise physiology or be a pediatric educator.
Suzanne S. Laws Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2003
to honor Suzanne S. Laws, MS, RD, FADA, BC-ADM,
CD, CDE, AADE 1996 Diabetes Educator of the
Year, for her commitment to people with diabetes
in conjunction with LifeScan's online "Ask
the Expert" program. Applicants for this
scholarship must meet at least 2 of the following
criteria:
