President’s Monthly Report
Dear Colleagues:
National Nutrition Month was a great success around the state. The first ever RD day occurred on March 10, 2008. How did you spend it? Many RD’s reported fun events at their facilities and with their districts. I enjoyed a night with great members of the Broward County Dietetic Association at a dinner honoring RD’s that have been members of BCDA for twenty years. The Tallahassee Dietetic Association represented us at the Capitol on March 10th and showcased our services to legislators. Spreading the word to legislators so that they understand what RD’s do is important. Thank you TDA.
So what has been going on around the state during the last month? Gayle Dietz, past FDA president, participated in a Roundtable Discussion with the Surgeon General held in Miami. Gayle always represents the Florida Dietetic Association and all of us with grace, wit, and great intelligence. She was able to articulate how important RD’s are in health care.
This was a busy month for health care discussions. I was invited to participate in Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s Health Care Working Group on March 19th, 2008. What a great meeting. I was very pleased to be able to represent all of you and what we do everyday to help Florida citizens. Membe rs of this working group include CEO’s from major South Florida hospitals, CEO’s from Rehabilitation and Mental Health Centers, and Insurance company representatives. This group will work on investigating what type of health services would ben e fit Florida citizens. You would be thrilled to know many of the members of the group already believe that wellness and preventive services should be included in health plans.

Congratulations to these colleagues who choose to serve us and our association. There are colleagues that do not share that commitment to our profession. Recently, we received a few emails from colleagues complaining about the number of emails they receive from FDA, the President and President Elect. This is very disheartening to those of us that dedicate our time and energy to make a difference in our profession. If you are reading this message I know you are one of “us” that care. Remember, Imagine Believe and Achieve with perseverance we can convert others to serve our association.

Chris Stapell, our Executive Director, represented us at The Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council which met on March 28th.
There are many great nutrition professionals in this state making a difference everyday. It was due time that RD’s had their own day. Thank you for your hard work helping to make a difference in your community, facility and every where in between. RD’s enjoy a profession that is not just 9-5. We take our profession where ever we go daily. Thanks for making us proud everyday.
Respectively submitted,
Lucille Beseler
