President's September 2007 Message
Greetings to all FDA Members,
This is my last update as your President.
While I do not have a lot to report, I do
have a lot to say.
First, I want to thank my incredible Board
of Directors, Lucille Beseler, Holly Adams,
Rachel Chambers, Sheah Rarback, Mary
Herrstrom and Peggy O'Neill. We have had
a very successful year and I have all of you
to thank for that. Thank you to all of the
2006-2007 Committee Chairs Stephanie Norris,
John Wills, Jo Ann Donnelly, Toni Martin,
Joan Williams, Cathy Christie, Meghan Montgomery,
Cindy Kepler, and Shannon Molthen. You
have all been outstanding. Stephanie, Jo Ann,
Toni and Joan are all stepping down after
serving in their positions for 3 years. Thank
you ladies for going over and above. My biggest
thank you must go to all of the FDA Membership.
Each of you has played a roll in our success.
It has been a wonderful year filled with memories
that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
I am very proud to have led such a professional
group and look forward to remaining involved
in FDA.
Plans are underway for the first BOD/AC meetings
for the 2007-2008 year at The Peabody Hotel
in Orlando, October 19th and 20th. This first
meeting of the year is very important as we
set our priorities and kick off our new strategic
plan. I hope all AC members will be able to
attend. Many committees have already geared
up for the coming year.
"
Toni Martin, Incoming Membership Chair
is contacting non-members about the benefits
of renewing their ADA/FDA membership.
" Holly Adams and the Fiscal Affairs
Committee met in Tallahassee the last week
in August to draft the new budget.
" Sandy Woodruff and Chris Stapell
are preparing for a meeting with the Governor's
staff on October 4th. Sandy and Chris also
attended a press conference on September 20th
at the Department of Education for the reading
of a resolution for Florida School Breakfast
week.
" The Nominating Committee is accepting
nominations of the FDA ballot. Contact Maureen
Gardner at Maureen.gardner@moffitt.org
if you have a nomination to make (remember
you can nominate yourself). Positions that
need to be filled are President-Elect, Secretary,
Chair of District Presidents, Delegate and
Nominating Committee.
Several members will be attending FNCE later
this week in Philadelphia where we will be
involved in several exciting activities.
"
The Affiliate Training session will be expanded
for the first time to a day and a half. The
program has been planned by the Affiliate
Task Force which is chaired by our own Chris
Stapell. Cathy Christie, Joyce Gilbert,
Chris and I will all be making presentations.
Both Lucille Beseler and Nadine Pazder
will be attending.
" For the first time, FDA will have a
booth in the exhibit hall to market our Diet
Manual. We are very excited about this opportunity.
If you plan to be at FNCE, please be sure
to stop by booth #655.
" Gail Kauwell will receive the
ADAF Excellence in Practice Award for Dietetics
Education. We are very proud of Gail and plan
to be on hand when she receives her award.
" I am pleased to tell you that my name
has been submitted for possible nomination
for ADA Treasurer-Elect. I will be interviewed
at FNCE by the Nominating Committee. The thought
is a bit nerve racking, but I am excited about
the opportunity.
The Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council
is meeting via conference call on October
3, 2007. They will be considering applications
from two of our members for the Council position
that will be available once Darlene Moppert
finishes her term this fall. Please join me
in thanking Darlene for all of her hard work
over the past eight years. Serving on the
Council is a difficult and time consuming
commitment.
That is all of the news for now. This weekend
I will pass the "gavel" to Lucille.
As we move into a new operating year, I know
that you will give Lucille and the new Board
your support as they move forward. While you
will not be hearing from me as much, I am
not going anywhere and will always be available.
Thank you again for being such a wonderful
organization. You are the BEST.
Please keep in touch,
Molly
