Legislation
The Florida Dietetic Association (FDA) is the
advocate of the dietetic profession serving the
people of Florida through the promotion of optimal
nutrition, health and well-being.
About FDA
FDA was founded in 1935 and is currently comprised
of approximately 3,000 members. Members of the
association include registered dietitians (RDs),
licensed dietitians/nutritionists, registered
dietetic technicians, and students. Our members
work in a variety of settings including business
and industry, schools, universities, research
centers, hospitals and clinics, public health
units, long- term care facilities, government
agencies, the military, pharmaceutical companies,
communications, and health and fitness centers.
FDA Activities
FDA supports and sponsors many activities in
order to accomplish the purpose of the association
including:

Annual, midyear, and legislative meetings offering
continuing education credit to keep members
updated on current issues in nutrition.

A
quarterly newsletter providing information from
the state office, district associations, and
national association.

A
liaison program to facilitate the exchange of
information among other organizations espousing
similar or complementary goals and ideals.

Scholarships
to support the future of the profession.
Legislation & Public Policy
FDA members advocate and support legislative
and public policy initiatives that:

Encourage
a proactive, prevention-based health care model
as opposed to a reactive, disease-based model.

Provide
easy access to cost-effective health care therapies.

Protect
the public from unqualified practitioners and
fraudulent practices.
Public Service
FDA members actively participate in a wide range
of public service initiatives including:

National
Nutrition Month.
During March of every year, nutrition professionals
throughout Florida sponsor a wide scale campaign
to increase awareness and educate the public
about food and fitness choices that prevent
disease and promote excellent health.

Year-Round
Public Service Programs.
FDA members continue their public service programs
throughout the year, sponsoring a variety of
educational events such as seminars and workshops,
fitness events, health fairs, media programs,
and more.
