FAND Scholarship and Stipends

The Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation (FANDF) offers scholarships and stipends to Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics members. They are awarded to further education, obtain certifications, gain leadership skills and involvement in professional activities.

Give Back Program

All recipients of scholarships and stipends are asked to give back a minimum of 2 hours to the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics within one year of receiving their award. Hours can be fulfilled at the Florida Annual Symposium in July. If you are not able to attend the symposium, hours can be fulfilled within your district. The scholarship chair can assist you in fulfulling your giving back to the organization.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: November 2, 2016

Scholarship criteria for the below scholarships:

  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Florida Resident
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Student continuing education for at least one additional academic term following application deadline
  • Dietetic Intern candidate accepted into a program or currently in a program
  • Accepted or enrolled in an approved program in the state of Florida. Those students dong a distance internship are still applicable, but must be a Florida Resident
  • Anticipating practice in the field of dietetics
  • Applicants should have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 ona 4.0 scale
  • References and statement of goals indicate professional potential and commitment to excellence in dietetics

Requirements that must be met for an application to be considered

  • Complete the scholarship application and submit online.
  • Send a copy of your transcripts to: Scholarship Chair, Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, P.O. Box 12608, Tallahassee, FL  32317-2608
  • At least 1 reference needs to be received for each application. The person completing the reference needs to click here to complete it.

Sister Helen Marie Pellicer Scholarship:

This scholarship was established in 1969 in memory of Sister Helen Marie Pellicer.

Amount of Award: $1000

Number Awarded: 1

Qualifications: Junior or senior undergraduate student in dietetics

FAND Presidents Scholarship:

This scholarship was established in 1975

Amount Awarded: $1500

Number Awarded: 1

Qualifications: Graduate student in dietetics or Registered Dietitian working towards a Masters/PHD to enhance his/her career in dietetics

Anne Brezina Dietetic Intern Scholarship:

This scholarship was established in 2005

Amount of Award: $1000

Number Awarded: 1

Qualifications: Acceptance into or currently in a dietetic internship program

Clara Augustine Public Health Scholarship:

This scholarship was established in 2012

Amount of Award: $1000

Number Awarded: 1

Qualifications: Accepted or enrolled in MPH, DrPH, masters or doctoral program with an EMPHASIS in public health

STIPEND DEADLINE: February 1, 2017

Florida Legislative Day:

Amount of Award: $100

Number Awarded: 3

Qualifications: Any member can apply

Purpose: To attend Legislative Day in Tallahassee. Awardee is provided up to $300 reimbursement to put towards registration, travel, hotels and meals. Once event has occurred, a reimbursement form needs to be completed to receive funds.

STIPEND DEADLINE Deadline: April 1, 2017

Levina Phillips Stipend:

Amount of Award: $500

Number Awarded: 1

Qualifications: Any member can apply

Purpose: For leadership growth opportunities or any certification that will enhance your dietetics career.

How you will be awarded: Awardee is provided up to $500 reimbursement to put towards costs related to the experience, including hotel, food and travel. Once event has occurred, a reimbursement form needs to be completed to receive funds.

Public Policy Workshop

Amount of Award: $200

Qualifications: Any member can apply

Purpose: To attend the Public Policy Workshop in Washington, D.C., Awardee is provided $200 reimbursement to put towards registration, travel, hotel and meals. Once event has occurred, a reimbursement form needs to be completed to receive funds.

Florida Symposium Stipend:

Amount of Award: Covers the cost of early bird registration

Number Awarded: 2

Qualifications: Any RD member can apply

Purpose: To assist any RD member in attending the annual meeting to network and participate in education sessions to grow in the profession.

How you will be awarded: All awarded recipients will be notified prior to the deadline for early bird registration.

You will then register by mail and note you are the award recipent. No funds will be exchanged.

Florida Symposium Stipend Application

Florida Symposium Student Stipend

Amount of Award: $200, plus registration fee

Number Awarded: 3

Qualifications: Any dietetics student can apply. All award winners must volunteer 4 hours at symposium

Purpose: To assist student member in attending the annual meeting to network and participate in educational sessions to grow in the profession

How you will be awarded: All awarded recipients will be instructed on how to register and the $200 will be provided after you attend the symposium.

Purpose: To assist members in attending the AND annual meeting to network and participate in educational sessions to grow in profession

How you will be awarded: All awarded recipients will be notified prior to the deadline for early bird registration. Awardees will be reimbursed upon proof of registration.
