About FDA
The Florida Dietetic Association (FDA) is the
advocate of the dietetic profession serving the
citizens of Florida through the promotion of optimal
nutrition, health and well-being.
FDA sponsors many activities in order to accomplish
the purpose of the association including:
- Annual, mid-year and legislative meetings
offering "up-to-date" continuing education credits;
- A quarterly newsletter providing information
from the state office, district associations
and national association;
- A liaison program to facilitate the exchange
of information among other organizations espousing
similar or complementary goals and ideals; and
- Scholarships to support the future of the
profession;
FDA was founded in 1935 in Jacksonville, Florida
and is currently comprised of approximately 4000
members and fifteen district associations. Since
1988, FDA has maintained its headquarters in the
state capitol, Tallahassee, Florida. Members of
the association include registered dietitians,
licensed dietitians/nutritionists, registered
dietetic technicians and students.
Our members work in a variety of settings such
as business and industry, schools, universities
and research centers, hospitals and clinics, public
health units, long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical
companies, and health and fitness centers.
FDA is governed by a seven member Board of Directors
(BOD). The BOD is elected by statewide vote and
composed of a president, president-elect, secretary,
treasurer, chair of delegates, chair of district
presidents and member-at-large. The BOD meets
three times a year to discuss association business.
An advisory body, the Administrative Council meets
with the BOD twice a year. The AC is comprised
of three additional delegates and presidents representing
all fifteen districts. These two bodies are assisted
by Standing Committee chairs and a Nominating
Committee.
