Highlights of the 2009 FDA Annual Symposium

Introduction to three of our speakers!

 

Alice Lichtenstein, D.Sc, is the Senior Scientist and Director of the Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory, Jean Mayer USDA HNRCA at Tufts University.  Her main research focus is on dietary fatty acids, phytoestrogens/soy protein, genetically modified selectively breed oils and nutrition policy.  She was an expert panelist regarding the Dietary Reference Intake process and communication documents.  She will be discussing Proposed Improvements for the Next Set of DRIs.

Mary Flynn, PhD, RD works in human nutrition research and teaches courses in nutrition at Brown University.  She is currently comparing the diet recommended by the National Cancer Institute to a plant-based olive oil diet that she has designed.  She is studying women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer after the age of 50 looking for improvement in biomarkers. 

 

 

William Meggs, MD, PhD is a practicing medical toxicologist and emergency physician with a strong interest in environmental toxicology and the environmental aspects of health.  He is the Director of the Division of Toxicology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.  Dr. Meggs will explore Inflammation, Diet and Disease.
